What it means to be a freelancing mother
When you consider the day "good" because, despite being released from contract for a job that is a significant portion of your income, your almost-4-year-old pees on the potty for the first time. Because, you know, I won't need that income once I don't have to buy Pull-Ups anymore. Well... almost.

whoah. curious to hear what happened over there. or maybe you'll never tell.
Oh, no. What Sheri said. Maybe they decided they didn't care for your flash fiction?? Phooey on them!
Well, at least the news about Hamlet is good. Give him a kiss from me!
My contact didn't go into specifics, just said they are scaling back so as to focus on current readership. That surprised me a little as the site is pretty AP-friendly, but whatever. If I had to guess, I'd say they're cutting the more "generic" mommy blogs in favor of the more topic-specific (financial advice, tax law advice, almost-medical advice). It remains to be seen.
I doubt it was that they didn't like my fiction, but if that's the case, I will proudly write more of it. The best opportunities in life come when one is true to oneself, rather than trying to please people who will never quite be pleased.
It's because of your fiction. Write more of it. Show those bastards who's boss.
Congrats on the peeing thing.
I never thought I'd write that sentence.
Sorry to hear about the Disney things, Christa. I enjoyed it a lot! Oh, well... potty training is a freaking big deal too...
(((BIG HUGS))) Apparently God has a sense of irony.
Maybe we should start a write-in campaign to Disney to complain about removing our favorite new mainstream blogger? ;) Maybe you could get on with Work It, Mom?
Thanks again all for the support. It really means a lot. Honestly I'm not too upset about it. The site is, after all, still in beta. There's a chance I could return, if not for blogging, then for other freelance assignments. They're still very much figuring out what they want to do with it.
I have to say that my contact was extremely decent about the whole thing. She made the phone call even though it was really hard for her (which I could hear) - she could've just let the letter come to me, and she didn't. So I appreciated that very much.
And Stephen, what is this world coming to? What's next - a zombie cozy?
